Breach of faiths: partition ripped open a chasm between Hindus and Muslims in the Subcontinent
Article Abstract:
Many families were dislocated as a result of Partition in 1947, with around 12 million people moving between the new, truncated India and East and West Pakistan. No mention of the Partition is made in government documents, but the legacy of it lives on in most aspects of life in the Subcontinent. At the time different religious groups were ranged on either side of the boundary, which was thought to be adequate to contain the problem. However India and Pakistan have fought two wars over border disputes since 1947.
