Breakfast cereals in France
Article Abstract:
The 83,200 tons ready-to-eat breakfast cereals market in France was valued at just over FFr2.5 billion in 1996. Per capita consumption reached just 1.4kg in France, however, compared with 6.2kg in the UK. Growth reached around 5% per year in 1996 and 1997 following very rapid growth up to 1992. The market for adult cereals is growing rapidly, while the children's cereals market remains the largest. Cereals are purchased by 62% of households, with 95% of products purchased in hypermarkets and supermarkets. Output reached 71,000 tons in 1996 from 42,000 in 1994.

Chocolate drinks in France

The market for chocolate based drinks in France is stable, but with little product or brand innovation and few growth prospects. Mild drinking chocolates represent around 9$% of total sales, with malted beverages representing 4% and pure cocoa 2%. 93% of total sales are through hypermarkets and large supermarkets. Media advertising was cut back in 1995 and 1996, although promotional offers, competitions, in-store sales drives and gifts are extensively used.

Tea in France
Article Abstract:
Tea consumption in France is growing rapidly, although the retail market is only worth around 1.3 billion French francs a year, compared to 9.4 billion for coffee. Standard tea blends represent around 30% of the market, and sales are dominated by tea bags, with a 75% share of volume. Unilever and Twinings dominate the tea market in France, and around half of all tea is sold in hypermarkets.
