Burma as South Africa
Article Abstract:
Burma's State Law and Order Restoration Council (Slorc), the military regime that has controlled the country since slaughtering pro-democracy demonstrators in 1988, continues its repressive rule. Many countries have failed to act against Slorc's brutal despotism, most shamefully Burma's southeast Asian neighbors that are in the best position to do so. The case of South Africa demonstrates that sanctions are necessary when dealing with power-hungry tyrants. Constructive engagement did nor work against apartheid and will not work against Slorc.
