DENMARK: PARALLELL IMPORTS OF COCA-COLA

Article Abstract:

Four Danish importers have been allowed to import bottled Coca-Cola from Eastern Europe (Poland and Slovakia). The imports were stopped by the Danish police this summer, but now the importers fulfill Danish requirements as regards recycling, excise and description of contents. MD Agnete Raaschou-Nielsen of Coca-Cola Tapperierne, the Danish subsidiary of Coca-Cola, says the company can not intervene as long as regulations are followed by the importers. However, the major Danish supermarket groups are reluctant to sell the imported Coca-Cola. Jan Lundegren at FDB says his experience of parallel imports is that there will be problems with supplies sooner or later.

DENMARK: CARLSBERG TO SELL OFF ACTIVITIES

Article Abstract:

The Danish brewery group Carlsberg will sell off its stakes in Tivoli and Royal Copenhagen , which are valued at more than DKr 300mn (USD 42mn) and DKr 1.1bn respectively. Moreover, the organization will be split into three business areas: Carlsberg Beer, Carlsberg Soft Drinks and Carlsberg Finance, and the group will begin publishing quarterly reports. The measures are taken to meet pressure from major shareholders, such as the Danish institutional investor ATP, to become more focused on shareholder value and be able to expand on the international beer market.
