Call for convergence
Article Abstract:
Future developments for telecommunications in Malaysia could be the convergence of companies, such as infrastructure providers, electronic media companies and content providers. Former chairman of Telekom Malaysia, claimed that the fibre programme would pave the way for new services. However only 20% of capacity would be used for voice telephony, therefore the unused 80% could be used for TV signal transmission. The Seventh Malaysian plan foresees a merger of telecommunications, broadcasting and computer technologies.
