Capability is growing
Article Abstract:
Three venture capitalist firms have joined 3i in setting up offices in Nottingham, England, which reflects the growing importance of the city for investments. Many of the buy-in or buyout deals in the city are worth less than 10 million pounds sterling. It is hoped the corporate finance accountants, based in Nottingham, will be able to use their local connections to maintain the flow of management buyout deals particularly from family owned companies. The number of buyout deals has declined during the last six months of 1998 and the buy-in market has also slowed.

Feeling lucky?
Article Abstract:
It is still possible to put together an attractive and viable management buyout or management buyin bid in the UK, even though such deals are facing strong competition from very successful, acquisitive and liquid trade purchasers. The key factor in assembling a successful bid is achieving the correct balance between debt and equity players. Those wishing to make a buyout or buyin bid must be prepared to bargain very hard with the vendor. They must ensure that they focus their borrowing on sources which have a track record of support.
