Recognising the importance of management
Article Abstract:
Incumbent managers continue to play a key role in determining the structure of buyouts undertaken in the Midlands region of the UK, even though venture capitalists are very active in identifying and creating opportunities. As industrial activity in Birmingham, England, and the surrounding area is restructured into more efficient units, there will be a shift towards financial deals which make extensive use of the skills of incumbent management, linked with those of a chairman from outside.

Right man meets the bimbo
Article Abstract:
The 28 million pounds sterling management buyout/buy-in (bimbo) of UK-based industrial machine manufacturer Beck and Pollitzer highlighted the importance of incumbent managers, when it was handled by Gresham Trust in 1998. A new managing director was supplied to Beck and Pollitzer after its managing director of 40 years, Michael Stone, decided to sell his stake in the firm and retire. The bimbo increased company trading by up to 30% by the time the transaction was completed in March 1998.
