A quest for efficiency
Article Abstract:
There are a number of major infrastructure projects being carried out in Bangkok, Thailand. Large construction firms are carrying out major infrastructure projects, though the construction of office towers and condominiums has almost halted. Industry has collapsed, but construction firms have signed long-term contracts that are valid for some four years. There have been some postponements and delays, and there is an increasing scarcity of resources. There may also be a greater focus on health and education.

The gravy train stops
Article Abstract:
Indonesian economic growth has been hit, and this is affecting infrastructure investment in projects such as toll roads, private power, and telecommunications. A contraction of 5% is forecast for the Indonesian economy in 1998. The government postponed 75 projects in Sep 1997, with a further 62 projects put under review. The continuation of 71 other projects has been criticised since the economy cannot support many major projects, and the presidential family stands to benefit from many projects.
