Carlsberg, Heineken ready to divvy up brewer S&N

Scottish and Newcastle PLC has accepted a $15.42 bil joint bid from brewers Heineken N.V. and Carslberg A/S, which plan to break up the Edinburgh-based company. Heineken will assume control of operations in the United Kingdom, the US, India, and some European markets, while Carlsberg will obtain the 50% of S&N it does not already own and take control of operations in China, France, Greece, and Russia.

SABMiller issues cautious view

First-half net profit for UK brewer SABMiller PLC rose 21% to $958 mil, while revenue increased by 15% to $10.78 bil. However, SABMiller officials cautioned that the rising costs of raw materials may negatively impact second-half net profit.
