Cathay woes cloud outlook
Article Abstract:
Hong Kong-based airline Cathay Pacific Airways stock has been avoided by investors in Hong Kong due to the airlines' decision to ground its fleet of A-300 Airbus planes, due to engine troubles requiring a check on the whole fleet. The company's net profit is also expected to be diminished by 3.3% for 1997. Other factors that may lead to a diminished value in Cathay stocks are the sour relations of Cathay parent, the Swire Group, with China, the increased aircraft fuel prices and higher landing fees for the airline at Hong Kong's new airport.
