The British National Lottery has helped to fund the production of a number of movies that have not been well received by critics or the public. Exhibition centers and museums have also received funding from the lottery and have not always been successful. Many projects have been set up in depressed areas in northern England, where it is difficult to attract visitors. The British Film Institute and Lottery Film Department are to be combined to form the Film Council, in an attempt to improve the system.

Lady luck in trouble: the Texas lottery
Article Abstract:
Nora Linares was fired as director of the Texas state lottery in early 1997 because she lacked the experience necessary to properly do the job. The lottery itself is successful, but questionable lobbying activities of GTECH, which runs the lottery, have affected the company's reputation.
