Chemists' goods in France

An analysis of the 1995 chemists' goods sector in France reveals that pharmaceutical sales grew by 9% despite government efforts to restrict consumption in this area. The estimated pharmaceutical sales per person per year was 2,186 French francs. The total output in the soap and detergent industry was 1.35 million tons and the value of household consumption rose by 1.5%. This very competitive industry is growing and producing an increasingly complex selection of products. The cosmetics and toiletries industry is also growing, with turnover increasing by 6% and household consumption of these products rising by 1.4%.

In 1994, pharmaceutical sales by wholesalers in the Netherlands were valued at G3,605 million, Dutch Gilde, representing a 5% increase since 1993. Of the total, digestive tract drugs have a 21% share, followed by heart and circulatory system drugs with 17%. Sales of cosmetics and toiletries made up G1,639 million. The markets for pharmaceuticals, cleaning products and cosmetics and toiletries are discussed, giving details of foreign trade, distribution and forecasts for the future.
