The retail market for pharmaceuticals in Germany was worth 35 billion deutschemarks in 1993, against 38.8 billion deutschemarks in 1992. Consumption of medicines bought from pharmacies in Western Germany totalled 20.9 billion deutschemarks in 1993. The over-the-counter medicine market in Western Germany was worth some 7.1 billion deutschemarks in 1993, compared with 6.5 billion deutschemarks in 1992. Retail sales of toiletries and cosmetics totalled some 15.8 billion deutschemarks in 1994, with some growth forecast in 1995 and 1996.

Article Abstract:
Italian consumption of pharmaceuticals products continued to fall in 1994, following an estimated 6.4% decline in volume sales in 1993. Pharmaceutical production during 1993 fell by 1.1% in value and 11% in volume. Retail sales of cosmetics and toiletries totalled 9.65 trillion lire in 1993, against 9.47 trillion lire in 1992. Apparent consumption of cleaning products during 1993 totalled 2.97 trillion lire, with a volume of 1.5 million t. An overview of the Italian market for chemists' goods is presented.
