Chine continentale Carrefour aura quinze magasins la fin 1998
Article Abstract:
Despite the Asian economic crisis, Chinese retail trade is expected to continue to show sustained growth in the years to come. According to Datamonitor, it should rise 10% by the year 2002. Retail sales trade is expected to come to about FFr 800bn by the year 2002, compared with FFr 530bn in 1997, up 9.5% from 1996. Supermarkets are expected to benefit from this growth. They are expected to represent about 25% of the sales value for retail trade in 2002 compared with 5% at present. Ahold already has 40 Tops units at Shanghai, and other foreign groups such as Tesco and its Thai partner Lotus, have ambitions in China. Carrefour, the French retail group, intends to shift into high gear. The French group expects to have a total of fifteen hypermarkets in China by the end of 1998, compared with eight at present. It will do this in alliance with Chinese partners; there appear to be a lot of candidates for a partnership with Carrefour.
