Rocky times ahead for Swiss banking?
Article Abstract:
Switzerland's banking industry is in a state of flux. From record highs of 631 banks and finance companies and 127,626 bank employees in 1989 and 1990, the sector has gone down to just 413 institutions and 119,100 people by 1995. There are signs that the industry will continue to consolidate and that the State guaranteed cantonal banks are no longer immune to pressures to streamline banking structures.

Investing in the euro
Article Abstract:
Swiss investment advisers still believe that there are attractive investments in euro assets in terms of equity and fixed interest despite the poor showing of the euro in the first half of 1999. They blame the negative sentiments of investors towards the introduction of the currency and the Kosovo, Yugoslavia, conflict as the major factors that influenced the lackluster performance of the euro.
