Coca-Cola Beverages hopes for a hot debut in July

Coca-Cola Beverages PLC, the biggest bottler of carbonated soft drinks in central and eastern Europe, expects to have a hot debut during its listing in London, UK, on Jul. 13, 1998, and in Sydney, Australia, on Jul. 14, 1998. The company is expected to be worth between 1.3 million pounds sterling to 1.7 billion pounds sterling because the price range for its initial public offering has been pegged at 125 pence to 160 pence ($2.09 to $2.68) per share. Coca-Cola Beverages is a spin-off of Australia-based Coca-Cola Amatil Ltd.'s operations in central and eastern Europe, plus bottling operations in northern and central Italy.

Friends Provident may acquire L&M for $1.2 billion

Friends Provident tendered an agreed bid of 744 sterling pounds to acquire Exeter, UK life insurer and pensions company London & Manchester PLC to spark rumors about renewed consolidation of the British insurance industry. One analyst felt that Friends may be beaten by another bidder based on the present offer. Analysts generally feel that consolidation would be a healthy trend.
