Coexistence of strategic vertical separation and integration
Article Abstract:
Conditions under which some upstream firms choose vertical separation while others choose vertical integration in the equilibrium of a symmetric model are given. When vertical separation and integration coexist, reducing the number of vertically separating firms would improve the welfare.

Research debating whether suppliers who are part of incomplete contracts can be vertically integrated when they chose the specific of economic relations and the levels of investment is presented. Particular attention is given to the contractibility of specificity.

Issues concerning cross-shareholding are discussed with emphasis on their impact to the finances of companies. The results of a study of horizontal integration within the Dutch financial sector using a Cournot and Bertrand model are presented.
