Competitiveness surveys have bad news for much of Asia
Article Abstract:
A survey released by the World Economic Forum in Geneva, Switzerland, reveals a decline in the competitiveness of most Asian economies. The organization has continued to rank Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan among the world's most competitive economies but countries such as Indonesia, Malaysia, China, Korea and Thailand have all suffered a serious decline. The drop in ranking by the other Asian countries is attributed to progress made by the other regional economies and the developed nations of the world.

Investors watch for repeat of 1980s Hang Seng drop
Article Abstract:
Investors in Hong Kong are waiting if the city's stock market will drop due to Hong Kong's economic woes, similar to what happened to Hong Kong in the early 1980s. During that period, the benchmark Hang Seng Index dropped 63% over a 17-month period at a time when the city's gross domestic product slowed after a near double-digit gain rates. Interest rates have increased again, further aggravating Hong Kong's troubles.
