Presidential candidates John Kerry and George W. Bush tailor the statistics they cite on the status of the economy to fit their differing political messages. The condition of the labor market in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, mirrors a trend taking place throughout the U.S. Jobs in the manufacturing industry, once considered a mainstay of the labor market, are dwindling, being replaced by service jobs in the health care, insurance, and gambling industries. Workers are skeptical about the quality of new jobs being created and insecure about the future.

Amid low rates, home prices rise across the global village

The housing market is soaring in the global village. Housing prices are up 19 percent in Hong Kong, 48 percent in Bulgaria and are also up in China, Australia and the United Kingdom, although showing signs of slowing in the United Kingdom and Australia.
