Corporate Korea in perspective
Article Abstract:
The economic crisis in Asia has prompted extensive criticism of the way in which South Korean companies operate. It has been claimed that large South Korean conglomerates are excessively indebted and too diversified and that South Korean companies have too high a debt-equity ratio. In fact, it cannot reasonably be argued that the diversified structure of large South Korean companies places them at a disadvantage. Furthermore, South Korean companies have not placed too much emphasis on growth at the expense of profitability. However, there are certainly areas where corporate South Korea needs to improve.
