Countdown
Article Abstract:
The US is testing a national missile defense system, and the Separtment of Defense has to report in Jun 2000 to President Bill Clinton with an assessment of such a defense system. Costs, efficacy of the system, and implications for arms control are factors involved in the evaluation. Critics are concerned about whether the systen will be effective, and the implications for arms-limitation agreements such as the Anti-ballistic Missile treaty.
