'Cybernomics' and IT productivity: not business as usual?
Article Abstract:
Business managers appear to be confused about the value and reliability of practices used for evaluating information technology (IT). This confusion may be due to the fact that three separate eras of technology co-exist during the late 1990s and a fourth era is foreseeable. Managers must understand these eras to appreciate their economic implications. The systems-based era is coming to an end, the personal computer-based era has passed its peak, and the network-centered era is in the ascendant, but analysts believe that the new era for the beginning of the 21st century will be content-centered.

Beyond the IT productivity paradox
Article Abstract:
Research indicates the most suitable means of improving assessment of the effect of Information Technology (IT) on corporate performance and productivity is an integrated systems lifecycle method which concentrates on improving quality rather than controlling by means of numbers. A number of studies have been carried out which indicate that the failure to assess the impact of IT on businesses is linked to the way evaluations are carried out.
