Article Abstract:
Indet Safety Systems (ISS) (Vsetin, Czech Republic), manufacturer of airbag starters, plans to produce 11 mil pieces per year of plastic pyrotechnical initiators. All the production will be exported, initially to Germany and later to the US and other markets. ISS, which has a stock of 100 mil Kc and should have about 70 employees, is a 51:15:34 joint venture of the manufacturer of airbag-starter systems and gas generators for seat-belt prestressers Nippon Kayaku (Japan), the trade firm Nichimen (Japan) and the ammunition company Zbrojovka Vsetin- Indet (Vsetin, Czech Republic). The joint research of the involved firms is expected to enable ISS to enter the Japanese automotive industry.

Article Abstract:
Czech Republic: According to the Czech Shoe Association (CSA), the domestic shoe market has an annual capacity of about 33 mil pairs currently. The Czech Republic imported nearly 31 mil pairs in 1998. About 55% of the quantity, 17.5 mil pairs, were represented by shoes of Chinese provenance. The average declared value of a pair of shoes from China was 66.93 Kc, nearly 2 USD, in 1998. The volume of Czech shoe imports increased by 28.2 mil pairs in 1998 compared to 1991. That is why the Czech Republic decreased the volume of its shoe production by about 30 mil pairs and dismissed about 10,000 employees from the sector during the period.
