DENMARK: DANSK TRAELAST AIMS AT EXPANSION

Denmark's Dansk Traelast, which is the second-largest player in Europe in timber trade, aims at expansion in the Scandinavian market and in the Baltic region with the view of boosting sales by around Dkr5bn (US$609mn). According to Danske Traelast CEO Steen Weisoe, these plans entail the purchase of setting up of 100 facilities in Scandinavia and the Baltic region. The company has decided to make Silvan, the DIY hardware and building retail chain, a nation-wide chain in Sweden and four new stores are to be set up this year. There are similar plans for the Baltic countries.

The construction sector is so busy that delivery times have doubled for some materials such as concrete. Recently, this has lead to increased co-operation between contractors and the suppliers of building materials. As suppliers are involved from the beginning of a construction project, the whole process becomes more effective.

DENMARK: ICOPAL ACQUIRES MONARFLEX

Danish building materials producer Icopal acquires Monarflex, a producer of reinforced plastic sheets for building and industrial applications. The purchase price is DKr 300 million (US$ 35 mn). Icopal's CEO Steen Weywadt says more acquisitions will follow and that he is on an "acquisition tour" around Europe.
