DENMARK: NETCOM TO INVEST IN MOBILE MARKET

Through its Danish subsidiary Tele2, the Swedish company NetCom will invest billion of DKr in expansion on the Danish market. So far, NetCom has invested DKr 600mn (USD 83mn) in Denmark. NetCom's MD Lars-Johan Jarnheimer says further investments in Denmark requires that Tele2 is profitable. So far, the Danish subsidiary has reported losses, but MD Ebbe Jorgensen expects a small surplus in the fourth quarter of 1999. According to Lars-Johan Jarnheimer, Tele2 aims at becoming able to provide all kinds of mobile phone services in Denmark. The first step will be to apply for a GSM 900 license. If the company doesn't obtain a license, other alternatives will be evaluated, such as becoming a service provider etc.

MOBILIX OG TELIA POSTER MILLIONER I NYE MOBILNET

The Danish mobile phone operators Telia and Mobilix wish to take over frequencies once Tele Danmark's NMT 900 network is closed down. According to Monique Moull -Zetterstr m, MD of Mobilix, the network can be converted into the new GSM 900 system for Mobilix and Telia. Mobilix' existing network covers three thirds of the Danish population, and the company now aims at expanding to cover even the remaining part. At present, both Mobilix and Telia have roaming agreements with Sonofon.

GLASULD INVESTERER 40 MILLIONER KRONER

The Danish company Glasuld, owned by the French group Saint Gobain, is to invest DKr 40mn (USD 5.7mn) in additional production capacity. Capacity is to increase by 15%, 20 tonnes per day, in order to increase sales on the German market. For 1997, Glasuld reported a DKr 110mn pre-tax profit, up from DKr 99mn in 1999, whereas turnover increased to DKr 398mn from DKr 370mn. Equity capital totals DKr 341.5mn.
