NILKAMAL PLASTICS TO SET UP JV IN LANKA
Article Abstract:
Nilkamal Plastics Ltd (NPL), India's moulded furniture maker, is floating a joint venture company in Sri Lanka for manufacturing moulded furniture. It will tie up with Eswaran Brothers of Sri Lanka to form the joint venture, Nilkamal Eswaran Plastics Ltd (NEPL). The new company will make 8 lakh moulded chair per year. Commercial production will begin from April 1, 1999. NPL will hold 76 percent stake in NEPL. The project cost is estimated at Rs 10 crore. Half of the project cost will be financed by Development Finance Corporation of Ceylon at 16 percent interest. By setting up the unit in Sri Lanka, NPL will save on freight cost and customs duty (50 percent in Sri Lanka). The product thus can be priced competitively. (um)(psr)
