DENMARK: SIEMENS ACCUSED OF USING ATC MONOPOLY
Article Abstract:
The Danish competition authorities have called Siemens to a meeting this Friday, when the German electronics giant will get a chance to prove that it is not using its monopoly on ATC train safety systems. Siemens has been accused of charging four times as much as other suppliers of ATC-systems. The Danish ATC-system was developed jointly by Siemens and DSB using public funds. Siemens has retained the rights to the system.

Three hours before the first goods trains without ATC-system were supposed to cross the new Oresundsbro, the new bridge between Sweden and Denmark, the security rules were not stated. Managing director of DSB, The Danish State Railways Henrik Hassenkam has sent a complaint to Trafikministeriet, The Danish National Ministry of Transport, responsible for the security system.

DENMARK: HORNBAEK BANEN TO INVEST IN SECURITY

Hornbaek Banen, the private Danish rail operator which operates the line Helsingor-Hornbaek-Gilleleje, has signed a contract with Siemens about the security system Automatic Train Protection. The price of the system is DKr 6mn (USD 0.8mn). Hornbaek Banen will be the first private rail operator in Denmark to take an automatic security system into operation.
