Attractive Volvo keeps suitors hanging: merger rumors swirl, but firm is in no hurry
Article Abstract:
Swedish automobile manufacturer Volvo AB is said to be in merger talks with Ford Motor Co. The news comes soon after similar rumors concerning Volvo's relationship with Volkswagen AG, and Fiat S.p.A. The company, having survived a failed merger with France's Renault in the early 1990's, appears to be in no hurry to repeat the same mistakes. As one of the most profitable motor vehicle companies, Volvo is seeking an alliance with another firm to help reduce production overcapacity.
