KLM pilots can't strike in solidarity, judge rules
Article Abstract:
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines pilots are not allowed to strike in solidarity with their colleagues at Northwest Airlines according to a judge in Amsterdam, Netherlands. The association of Dutch pilots invoked on the KLM pilots who fly the Amsterdam-Minneapolis, MN, route to go on strike if Northwest pilots go on strike on Aug. 29, 1998, as KLM and Northwest have a strategic and operation alliance. The judge also ruled that KLM can not ask its pilots to take over the two flights operated by Northwest between Amsterdam and Minneapolis, even though KLM has sold tickets to Dutch passengers for the two flights. Northwest pilots threatens to strike if no deal regarding their salary is reached.

Article Abstract:
Air France has reportedly placed the cost of a 10-day strike in June 1998 at 1.5 billion French francs.
