A coalition of Native Americans, environmentalists, and salmon fishers wants to dismantle the Elwha River dams to restore the river's salmon population. The aging dams provide very little power, but the hydroelectric power industry opposes the proposal, out of fear that the campaign may spread to other dams.

Southward tide: Pakistan
Article Abstract:
Recent downpours in Southern Pakistan forced engineers at the Mangla dam to release flood waters onto the city of Jhelum which was covered in ten feet of water. To save the city, embankments were opened to allow the flood waters out and nearby villages were flooded as well.
