South Korean Internet service provider Daum Communications Corp. aims to gain a foothold in U.S. market with purchase of Lycos Inc. from Spain's Terra Networks S.A. Analysts are skeptical, however, that Daum can turn around the ailing Lycos portal that has experienced such a loss in market presence in the U.S.

U.K.'s Standard Chartered nears Korea bank deal

In a move that would give a British bank control over a significant portion of South Korea's banking industry, Standard Chartered PLC is expected to acquire a 48.56% stake in Korea First Bank from U.S. investment company Newbridge Capital Ltd.
