Dawn of the dragon century
Article Abstract:
'Megatrends' author John Naisbitt's new book 'Megatrends Asia' predicts the ascendence of Asia to global dominance over the coming decades, led by the Overseas Chinese. The book also explored eight so-called megatrends taking place in Asia. They include the transitions from nation-states to networks, villages to supercities, government-driven to market-driven and export-led to consumer-driven, labor-intensive to high-technology, male dominance to the emergence of women, Western influence to the 'Asian Way,' and overall, from West to East.

The great, harsh east
Article Abstract:
East and Southeast Asia's brilliant growth arose largely from the public policy of providing little social protection to people or companies, leaving that to families and their networks. Even where protectionism is invoked, as in South Korea, it is applied in a way that forces market disciplines on the companies protected from overseas competitors. This results in a society better equipped to confront change, and one in which transfer payments do not weaken economic growth and social ties.

Global forces shape Asia
Article Abstract:
The world's growing economic integration means that the parts which make up the world economy are becoming greater in number, smaller and more significant. Small and medium-sized companies are growing in power as the world economy becomes larger and more open. In Asia, large new economies have been fostered by very large numbers of entrepreneurs, who are now increasingly creating networks. Indeed, it could be argued that these networks are now replacing nation states.
