Denmark: Cement fee called in question
Article Abstract:
In Denmark, the Socialist Liberal Party and the Danish Red-Green Alliance (Enhedslisten) have called the government's proposal for a cement fee in question. The Red-Green Alliance agrees to support the government's proposal on two conditions; firstly, the new fee should not have a negative impact on Aalborg Portland, the cement company; secondly, the government's revenue from the tax should be spent on social improvements in line with the Alliance's budget proposal. The two parties say the cement fee is a purely fiscal fee and not aimed to improve the environment as are other green taxes. SF thus agrees to support the cement fee proposal provided that the revenue from the tax is used for purposes that fall within the party's own proposals.

DENMARK: DEMAND FOR COMPETITION WITHIN CONSTRUCTION
Article Abstract:
The Danish Department of Industry wants to increase competition in the construction sector by opening up the market to foreign suppliers of, for example, cement and asbestos cement sheeting. This moves are announced after the revelation that Danish building prices are 25% higher than several EU countries, at least with regard to residential construction. Building materials are at the moment supplied by the few wholesalers that meet Danish standards within working and environmental conditions. Foreign suppliers would mean that these standards are removed, which is criticised by the sector.
