Denmark: Danish pork targeted by a Greenpeace protest
Article Abstract:
Greenpeace, the environment organisation, staged a protest yesterday morning against the Danish slaughter-house giant Danish Crown on the grounds that the company gives the 20 million pigs annually slaughtered in Denmark animal feeds containing genetically modified organisms (GMO). The protest action yesterday was staged outside Unilever's meat factory in Bavaria as the company uses meat from animals that have been given GMO-feeds. According to Greenpeace, Unilever buys its pork from Danish Crown, which it uses to produce the popular Bavarian sausages.

SLAGTERIER NAGTER AT FUSIONERE
Article Abstract:
The major Danish slaughter-house groups Danish Crown and Vestjyske Slagterier reject a possible merger, even though the gain from a merger is said to be over DKr 0.5bn (USD 0.07bn), synergy effects not taken into consideration. Peter Gaemelke, chairman of Landbrugsraadet, the Danish farmers' council, says it's the duty of the companies to start discussions about a merger as a merger would benefit pig producers. The gain is estimated at over DKr 0.50 per kilo pork.
