Denmark: GlobalConnect plans cable investments

GlobalConnect, a Danish telecoms company, is planning an investment of between DKr1bn and DKr2bn in a new 3,000-km telecoms cable stretching from Berlin to St. Petersburg. The cable to link Poland, Russia and the three Baltic countries with a telecoms and data network. GlobalConnect MD Jesper Har Hansen says new investors are required for implementing the investment. He declines to mention any sums but says major pan-European telecoms companies have expressed interest in the project. He expects the project to be initiated next year and be completed by 2003.

DENMARK: NKT'S 1999 RESULTS
Article Abstract:
The Danish group NKT reports a DKr 2,419mn (USD 310mn) profit for 1999, up from DKr 362mn in 1998. The profit is solely attributed to extra-ordinary items, which generated a DKr 2,890mn surplus. Result before extra-ordinary items was a DKr 543mn loss, down from a DKr 444mn profit in 1998, and turnover decreased to DKr 6,057mn from DKr 6,426mn. NKT Cables, which is the biggest part of the group, reports a DKr 672mn loss, mainly due to the so-called NorNed cable project, which was cancelled.

DENMARK: MAERSK OLIE&GAS WINS NORWEGIAN CONTRACT
Article Abstract:
Norway's DSND Subsea has awarded Danish Maersk Olie og Gas a DKr225mn contract for laying some 60km of cable to the Tyra Sydost oil field in the North Sea. The installation work is scheduled to begin in June.
