Poland: House of Prince faces tough competition
Article Abstract:
House of Prince, which is part of the tobacco group Skandinavisk Tobak, is facing tough competition in Poland, and MD Anders Friis says making profit on the Polish market has been difficult. Despite this, the company is not prepared to leave the Polish market as it sees it as a highly important market. The move by the Polish government to raise tobacco taxes in the country put pressure on House of Prince as tobacco consumption dropped 15-17%. Besides, the US tobacco company Philip Morris that has a market share of more than 30% in Poland, cut the prices of its L&M brand. House of Prince has a factory of its own in Poland that produces seven billion cigarettes. The company has a 12% market share in Poland. British American Tobacco has a 14% market share and German Reetsma about 20%.

Article Abstract:
Insurance company Zurich Forsikring has introduced a new unconventional smoking policy within the company; those employees who do not smoke will get an extra day off. This move has caused anger among those employees at Zurich who smoke. Head economist Jan Kaeraa of the Danish Trade Union Confederation says it is not a good idea to mix smoking policy with free days as it in fact entails wage discrimination.
