Denmark: Private hospitals to get more patients
Article Abstract:
The Danish private hospitals are prepared to receive more patients. The government has proposed a new order of free choice to reduce queues that is expected to increase the number of patients at the private hospitals. Privathospitalet Hamlet with 53 beds is Denmark's largest private hospital, and last year's turnover of DKr90mn(US$11mn) is expected to rise drastically if the government carries out the proposal. In the immediate future the increased demand can be met by working nights and Saturdays but in a longer view investments and new units is probably necessary according to Borsen newspaper.

Denmark: Experts forecast short-lived economic downturn
Article Abstract:
The Danish Treasury's Economic Forecasting Unit predicts in its latest report that even the Danish economy will be affected by the international economic slowdown. However, this downturn is thought to be short-lived. Unemployment is expected to rise in 2002 but drop again in 2003-2004. Labour force is expected to rise at too low a rate and measures are to be taken to speed up this growth. Balance of trade surplus is forecast to reach a record high level of DKr68bn (US$8.2bn) in 2004 vs. DKr27bn in 2001.
