Denmark: Sonofon blocks employee cell phones
Article Abstract:
A majority of the employees at Danish telecom company Sonofon will not be able to use the new, costly Short Message Services, like ringing tones and logos. Their phones have been blocked. Only those who work with entertainment are allowed to use the services. Managing director Ulrik Bulow says that Sonofon does not use fixed network phones and therefore the mobile phone use needs to be restricted. In the future the mobile operators are tipped to make large profits on SMS: es. Consultant John Strand commented on the restrictions by saying that it was a good decision not to give Sonofon an UMTS license, since the company doesn't know the business. Looking at their competitors, some of the Orange employees' phones have been blocked, while Telia and TDC have no restrictions regarding SMS: es.

Denmark: Sonofon to fund its own investments
Article Abstract:
Telenor and BellSouth will no longer give funds to mobile telephony company Sonofon but demand that Sonofon has to finance its investments itself. Telenor and BellSouth are only prepared to inject funds to investments in new technologies. According to Telenor and BellSouth, these requirements are reasonable as second biggest mobile telephony companies in other company present such results. Sonofon MD Ulrik Bulow agrees with this and adds investors are getting more impatient and require rapid results. He says the company now aims to boost its earnings and aims to raise its operating margin from the present 25% to more than 30%. Accordingly, Sonofon announced on Friday that it will cut its present 1,806-strong work force by 123 employees.
