Deutsche Bank mulls new retail strategy
Article Abstract:
Deutsche Bank AG, the largest bank in Germany, is considering the consolidation of its existing retail banking network of 1,572 branches with its electronic banking activities, known as Bank 24. The bank said such move, which could be operational by the autumn of 1999, will take advantage of online banking, which is the fastest growing sector of the industry. Analysts said the merger of the bank's retail banking network will increase its profitability as well as facilitate the linkup of the network with other retail banks.

Securvita, a Hamburg, Germany-based financial services firm will launch a new investment fund based on the NAX index of 20 ecologically sound stocks late in 1998, pending approval from German banking regulators. The fund is an effort to change the idea of German asset managers that ecologically correct investing is an ethical choice rather than a financial strategy. Securvita Director Thomas Martens said that a German investment outfit was chosen to launch the fund following the approval expected before autumn of 1998.
