Article Abstract:
The poorer nations have some of the worst environmental problems but they must find the means to alleviate them. Air pollution, adequate potable water supplies, and sewage management are unattended problems that are lethal. Poverty, urbanization, and population growth fuels thee problems.

Eritrea won its battle for independence from Ethiopia in 1991 and elections in April 1993 are expected to make Eritrea a formally autonomous country. War has made Eritrea a very poor country, but work-for-food plans and foreign humanitarian aid are helping.
