Don't crack the Japanese distribution system - just circumvent it
Article Abstract:
Difficulties encountered by United States firms seeking to operate in Japan can be avoided by bypassing Japan's complex distribution system through various methods. These include setting up a retail outlet in Japan, which Toys 'R' Us has done, using direct marketing methods, piggybacking, or entering the gray market. The Japanese distribution system, however, is itself changing, with the abolition of resale price maintenance in 1992, and proposed free trade zones. These are likely to be located near ports and airports, and firms using the zones would benefir from tax concessions, and cheap loans to help fund construction work.

Making computers more hospitable: conquering glitches in an information-dependent business
Article Abstract:
Robert Grime's Cyntergy Corporation is based in Maryland, and had turnover of $20 million in 1994. This is expected to double over the next five years. There are Cyntergy offices in London and Hong Kong, as well as the US. The company offers help-desk services for users in the hospitality, food service and retail industries. Software operating check in desks, petrol stations or fast food outlets has become more complex and companies were seeking ways to obtain improved information faster, while reducing the cost of an in house helpdesk.

Generating statistically dependent pair of random variables: a marginal distribution approach
Article Abstract:
Statistically dependent pairs of random variables in Monte Carlo simulations can be generated using a simple nonlinear optimization procedure. Values for the random variable Y in the random variates (X,Y) preserve the first three or four moments of Y's marginal distribution. The process can also be applied to linear regression and quadratic regression relationships. Three-moment and four-moment solutions are presented.
