Down under goes digital
Article Abstract:
Digital television is expected to take hold in Australia beginning Jan 1, 2001 as a result of the passage of enabling legislation. The law requires all Australian free-to-air stations to simulcast through analogue or digital signals. The former will be phased out in 2007. Australia has five television networks: the government-funded Australian Broadcasting Corp and Special Broadcasting Service, and the commercial Seven Network, Nine Network and Ten Network, which are known for the channels they occupy.

Kids switch off Aussie TV networks
Article Abstract:
Australian commercial TV networks could lose out to cable TV networks in terms of advertising mainly because of regulations covering children's programs in free-to-air TV. A study showed that children are increasingly switching from free-to-air channels to cable channels, since cable TV, without regulation, is able to offer programs that children want. Because of this trend, advertisers are also likely to shift to cable TV.
