Elektrim to take state in Power, telecom firms to sharpen focus
Article Abstract:
Elektrim SA plans to sell some assets and boost its core telecommunications, cable and electrical energy operations. This includes the proposed purchase of a 20% stake in Zespol Elektrowni Patnow-AdamowKonin SA (Poland) for $87.9 million. Then over the course of a year, Elektrim will invest an additional $100 million, which will boost its equity stake to 38.5%. That acquisition will serve as a beachhead for more expansion in the power sector, said officials. Also, Elektrim planned to add two local telephone operators to its existing portfolio. This will place the company in position to serve 50% of Poland's 40 million-some population as well as challenge Telekommunikacja Polska SA, the state-controlled telecommunications concern. Elektrim will sell holdings, over a five-year period, in about 80 noncore businesses which range from trading companies to farms.
