Energie : investissements de $ 230 milliards
Article Abstract:
Energy consumption in southern and eastern Mediterranean countries is expected to increase from 183mn ton oil equivalents in 1995 to 366mn ton oil equivalents in 2010. The demand for coal will increase from 24mn ton oil equivalents to 50mn ton oil equivalents, the demand for gas will increase from 44mn ton oil equivalents to 146mn ton oil equivalents, and the demand for petroleum will increase from 113mn ton oil equivalents to 159mn ton oil equivalents. The demand for electricity is expected to reach more than 655 terawatt hours compared with 244 terawatt hours in 1995. These countries' production of primary energy is expected to come to 435mn ton oil equivalents 2010, compared with 306mn ton oil equivalent in 1995. This will require US$ 230bn in investments. Financing needs will come to US$ 132bn during this period. Turkey represents 43% of the financing needs, trailed by Israel, Egypt and Algeria with 10% each.

ENERGIE
Article Abstract:
Sonel, Cameroon's national electricity company, is studying an electricity interconnection project between Cameroon and Chad. This project will depend on the supply of energy from the Lagdo hydroelectric power station in Cameroon to Ndjamena, the capital of Chad, via a 250 kilometre long high voltage line connecting the cities of Maroua and Kousseri in Cameroon with Ndjamena. The amount of the project is estimated at CFA Fr 30bn. This interconnection would make it possible to reduce the number of current outages in Chad, which force the people there to use generator sets, for a cost of CFA Fr 150 per thermally produced kilowatt while the price per kilowatt produced by a hydroelectric power station is CFA Fr 40.

Neg ria La Banque Centrale attire l'attention sur la crise nerg tique
Article Abstract:
Nigeria is suffering from an energy crisis resulting to a lack of investment and maintenance in its electricity and fuel production networks. According to a report by the Nigerian Central Bank (NCB), the energy crisis is also due to poor management in state-controlled companies. The NCB also points out that the energy shortage throughout Nigeria at present is particularly due to insufficient supplies, to distribution problems, and to the suspension of imports of refined products. Nigeria has major petroleum, gas, and coal reserves.
