HBK, Mercator plan insurance venture
Article Abstract:
HBK-Spaarbank, a Belgian savings bank, announced that it has agreed to structurally join its insurance activities with insurance company Mercator & Noordstar in January 1999. Under the deal, the two Antwerp, Belgium-based firms will form a holding that will create and market insurance and insurance savings products to the public. HBK and Mercator will each have a 50% stake in the company that will use HBK's 36 offices and 300 agents as its sales network. HBK and Mercator said the structural partnership is not expected to change their individual corporate identities.

Rolls-Royce in 2 leasing deals

Rolls Royce PLC announced it had struck deals with GATX Capital for engine leasing and with Pembroke Capital Ltd. for aircraft leasing. GATX Capital will take a 50% stake in Rolls Royce and Partners Finance Ltd. Rolls-Royce will merge its Aircraft Financing and Trading unit with Pembroke Capital Ltd, creating Pembroke Group Ltd. Pembroke Group will be 50% owned by Rolls Royce, and 50% owned by Pembroke Capital Management and by other investors in Ireland.
