Personnel-services business buoys Hay's pretax profit
Article Abstract:
Hays PLC, the UK business-services group, reported a pretax profit of 197.3 million pound-sterling ($330 million) for the year ended June 30, 1998, up 34% from 147.8 million pound-sterling a year ago. Excluding exceptional items, pretax profit increased 30% to 201.2 million pound-sterling. The strong performance, which the company insisted was in line with projections, is attributed in large part to a 41% profit increase at the company's personnel-services division. Meanwhile, sales at continuing operations was reported to have increased 20% to 1.32 billion pound-sterling from 1.1 billion pound-sterling.
