Exile on Main Street
Article Abstract:
Norman Rockwell was once not seen as serious art, but this has changed, and his work is more highly valued. Rockwell used classical references, and his work was admired by many serious artists, so this change in opinions of his works is not as radical as may first appear. Rockwell also produced works with political content, that showed outrage at racial intolerance. There are a number of ways of working as an artist, and questions as to whether Rockwell was an artist can appear irrelevant to modern ears.
