Article Abstract:
A review of five key European markets for eyewear between 1992 and 1996 shows different trends in each market with Germany being the largest eyewear market valued at US$3,770 million in 1996. Other markets include France, Italy, the UK and Spain. The review focused on three sectors of eyewear namely, spectacles, contact lenses and sunglasses. Spectacles had the most market share while sunglasses' sales were up due to UV radiaton risk awareness. Market growth for contact lenses was pushed by the introducton of disposable and soft contact lenses. UK experienced a 1% market growth in 1996 while the French market remained stagnant.
