FRANCE: CASINO'S PERFORMANCE AND GOALS
Article Abstract:
The three-point strategy - improvement of the network's sales performance, optimisation of purchases, and expansion - of Casino, the French retail group, has increased its operating income by 19.4% in the first half of 1999. Over 12 months, stocks in Geant hypermarkets have been cut by 2.5 days and the goal is to gain another ten days in the next three years. In supermarkets, the reorganisation and renovation of stores continues as well as the decrease in prices which should be finalised in the entire network at the end of the first half of 2000. Casino expects to have an additional 100,000 square metres of sales space in France. Casino will have 795 stores outside of France as of 31 December 1999, with the holdings in the Brazilian company Pao de Azucar, in the Colombian company Excito, in the Thai company Big C, and in Polish stores. The group is claiming leadership in Poland, where the first Leader Price supermarkets will open at the beginning of the year 2000.
