LORAL ORION, NATELCO IN JV FOR SATELLITE-BASED INTERNET
Article Abstract:
National Telecom of India Ltd (Natelco) and Loral Orion of the US are floating a joint venture for offering satellite-based Internet and private network services. The joint venture will set up Loral Orion India Ltd (LOIL) for offering these services. The new company will have an equity base of $4.5 million. Loral Orion will hold a 49 percent stake in LOIL while Natelco will hold a 51 percent stake. Loral Orion will be investing $150 million on Orion 3 satellite. The satellite which will be provided by Hughes Corporation will be put into the orbit by the first quarter of 1999. (ag)

N-TESTS DELAY SECOND PHASE OF DABHOL POWER PROJECT

The financial closure of the second phase of the Dabhol project is likely to be delayed due to India's nuclear tests. The financial closure is expected by end of 1998, instead of June 1998. The second phase of the project involves setting up a 1,624 mw power plant at a cost of $1.3 billion. The Dabhol Power Corporation Ltd is holding talks with the Maharashtra State Electricity Board for power purchase. The funding of the project will not be affected. The first phase of the Dabhol power project is likely to be completed four months in advance by December 1998. (rk)
